Product and engineering teams all over the world rely on LTspice models to reduce simulation time.

The Pulse Electronics Power BU website now has a greatly expanded range of power inductor LTspice models available for download to help engineers save time, yield detailed waveforms, and allow for the flexibility for arbitrary circuit modifications when designing advanced circuits.

How LTspice Works

LTspice (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) was developed by Linear Technology. The enhanced performance afforded by LTspice has become an industry standard when checking circuitry. Many industries turn to LTspice to expedite project schedules, cut costs, and help create better designs.

Today, engineers are simulating power supply designs early in the board level circuit design phase. With LTspice, capacitors and inductors are constructed with series resistance and other parasitic facets of their behavior using a minimal number of subcircuits or internal nodes. This scales down the number of nodes the simulator needs to solve, reducing the computational iterations required for a given simulation without compromising the accuracy or detail of the switching waveforms. It is easier for engineers to simulate rather than breadboard, this, in turn, speeds the design for a stable, reliable circuit.

Before the LTspice program was available, if a product failed to test during the design phase, engineers had to go back to modify hardware. This time lapse caused project timelines to extend and additional costs to be incurred. LTspice allows engineers to avoid these challenges by simulation of currents and voltages which without LTspice would be more difficult.

Why LTspice Is More Than Just Another Program

John Gallagher, Pulse Electronics Power BU Staff Field Application Engineer, explains how the time-saving, simulation-boosting power of LTspice can help you design advanced circuits even faster:

“In a previous role, I led a global design team. We all knew that part of our job was to find occurrences of bugs, so our final designs would perform well.

We found that there was just too much time being wasted and costly failures in the process of testing. When using symbols in LTspice schematics, we were able to simplify our tasks to have a smart, quick simulation program that saves a little bit of time and mental effort and prevents issues with our final design. For engineers, it means a clearer picture of the final design and faster, smarter designs.”

With LTspice, engineers can debug components and predict circuit behavior faster for more efficient designs. These LTspice models for Pulse Electronics SMT Power Inductors have already been through dozens of circuit tests. In other words, it works. It’s having a real impact on electronic power supply designs.
